Outdoor Activities and
Leisure Pursuits
Gaucin is ideally placed and suited for a
wide range of multi-activity outdoor holiday.
The whole area with its climate, scenery
and architecture lens itself to sketching, painting and photography.
The abundant Iberian, Roman and Moorish
remains makes the region an archaeological delight.
The region's limestone and sandstone
mountain ranges provide ample study opportunities for geologists and geomorphologists
alike.
The Mediterranean is 35
minutes away (the Atlantic 1 hour 30 minutes - Tarifa beach)
sailing from all the ports
along the coast (not forgetting Gibraltar)
deep sea fishing -
Estopona, Marbella, Duquesa, Sotogrande, Gibraltar, La Linea, Algeciras and Tarifa
sea fishing - you choose
your spot
windsurfing - in all its
forms centred on Tarifa, lesser sites along the coast.
swimming - safe family
bathing - Estapona, Duquesa, Sabinillas
dolphin and whale watching
- motorised canoes from Estapona, glass-bottomed boats from Gibraltar but the most
professionally organised trips are from Tarifa
Golf - the major activity,
if the number of golf courses means anything - and they do! Golf is big business
along this area of the coast and many courses are excellent - Sotogrande as an example.
Freshwater fishing - locally
available in either the Rio Genal or the Rio Guadiaro - in the latter you share the
fishing with otters!
Mountain walking, climbing, rambling,
caving and mountainbiking - the area provides a wealth of situations, trails,
paths, gorges and caves to experience and enjoy.
Horse riding - can be
arranged in the village but is widely available throughout the area.
Gaucin has a swimming pool and tennis
courts.
The nearest is at Duquesa 40 minutes away and
there are four others within an hour plus many more within two hours. Days at some
need to be booked well in advance.
Shopping - Marbella,
Ronda, Estapona and Malaga have a range of shops selling stylish fashions, shoes, leather
work, lace and linen, ceramics and other craft goods.
The same towns provide the whole range of night-life
experiences for the young at heart! Throughout the year the various towns
and villages try to outdo each other with noisy and colourful festivals!
